PROFIL
ON THE BOTTOM OF CHAOS.

PROFILE
Rentrer en soi (which means "return in self" in French) is an unique band in the visual kei scene. Despite a slow start, they managed to gain quite some popularity nowadays, which is partially because of Yukari (ex. Baiser) who was their producer for a while.
Their visuals are quite remarkable: for quite some time the bandmembers were dressed in costumes with a middle-ages theme, although like many bands, their outfits change often.
They also have a lot to offer musically: quite complex, melodious and partially heavy, but also melancholic and dream-like songs which are complimented by Satsuki's beautiful voice which can hit high notes as well as low, despairing growls.
BIOGRAPHY
Rentrer en Soi started already in 2001, but their activities in the first two years were scarce. They released a few demo-tapes, a few singles that were only available at their lives, and that was it.
At first, the band consisted of only four members: Satsuki on vocals, Takumi and Ao on guitar and Ryu on bass.
A slow start didn’t seem very promising, but their determination paid off a little later. In 2003, Mika joined as the drummer, completing the line-up. It must be around that time that they caught the attention of Yukari, once the vocalist of the band Baiser, but now focussing more on producing bands.
The result of their collaboration was released in January 2004, the mini-album Yurikago, which was distributed by the label Free Will, of which they were soon to become a part. Yukari’s influence was audible on the mini-album and the band’s songs seemed to resemble Baiser a lot. This was not a bad point, their popularity increased and the number of fans only grew more. On the same day as the release of the mini-album, they held a one-man which was completely sold out.
Right after their first one-man, Ao left the band, who was replaced shortly after by Shun, and since then, the line-up has remained the same.
A DVD somewhat matching Yurikago was released in August; it contained PVs of the songs, which were all recorded in Europe, France. Shortly after they released the single Wither and their first full length album Sphire Croid followed a few months later, in the new year. For the album, the members were all dressed in costumes that seemed to come directly from the middle ages. Some of the costumes such as those involving some harnesses didn’t seem to be very comfortable on stage, but it was a very unique style that hadn’t been used by any other visual kei band yet.
In the same year, two new singles got released and the two twin mini-albums: Astre no Ito and Kein no Hitsugi, which were the last releases that Yukari produced for them.
Maybe because of the change of producer, their style began to change again and it was not the only thing that changed. They changed the spelling of their name, for instance, to RENTRER EN SOI, all in caps.
The evolution in sound is displayed even more clearly with the release of their newest album RENTRER EN SOI in May 2006. The gentle melodies have disappeared and overall it has a much more rougher sound and Satsuki’s whimpers and breathy voice have been replaced by growls and screams.
In the same year, they release two more singles including live dvds.
For the future, RENTRER EN SOI has announced to be releasing another two singles; one in March and one in April. We’re curious to see what they bring us, maybe there’s another change in sound again? Moreover, it seems that whatever this band does is successful and we’re sure that that they’ll continue in this way!
