12012 tire son nom du numéro d'un article du code pénal californien qui concerne la possession d'armes dangereuses ou prohibées comme les armes à feu. D'ailleurs, les fans surnomment 12012 : Kyouki Shoji (凶器所持) qui signifie littéralement "Possession d'armes dangereuses".
Le groupe se définit lui-même par un concept dont le thème est la folie intérieure des hommes.

BIOGRAPHIE
12012 se forme le 1er mai 2003 au sein du label UnderCode et, chose inhabituelle pour un groupe de visual kei, les membres utilisent tous leurs noms civils. La formation est composée de Tohru (ex Nezire), de Tomoyuki (ex Tomo dans Mist of Rouge), d'Hiroaki (ex KiLLA), de Yuusuke et de Wataru qui viennent du groupe Lubis Cadir où Wataru se prénommait KYOYA.

Ils montent pour la première fois sur scène à Osaka lors d'un event organisé par leur label, UnderCode, puis sortent leur premier maxi, Depression sign le 28 juillet.
Le groupe se construit une identité petit à petit et sort un second maxi, Shudder en mars 2004, suivi le mois suivant par un mini album : Increasingly ! Ceux-ci attirent l'attention du public et deviennent vite introuvables.
Fort de ce succès, 12012 se produit pour la première fois en solo et ce pour une tournée de neuf dates étalées sur mai et juin, avant de reprendre le chemin des events. Leur look s'assombrit de plus en plus et ils arborent de superbes tenues noires et blanches confectionnées par ID-JAPAN.
Trois mini albums voient le jour mensuellement et, parallèlement à ça, ils organisent une tournée d'events de six dates, appelée the guilty of six days où chaque journée est régie par un membre du groupe et la sixième par 12012 en entier. Durant ces six jours, on y verra des groupes tels que Duel jewel, Panic Channel, moll'e node, Devise en Despair, etc...

En février 2005, ils jouent en solo pour un concert qui sera édité en DVD deux mois plus tard, sous le nom de CROM avec entre-temps, les sorties simultanées de deux maxi singles. Le groupe fait les beaux jours de leur label qui n'hésite pas à multiplier les sorties. Ainsi seront réédités leurs premiers CD en rupture de stock, auxquels s'ajoutent un DVD clips et un deuxième DVD live.
Ils continuent à se faire connaître en collaborant avec les magazines Cure pour la compilation Japanesque Rock Collectionz Cure2 et FOOL’S MATE pour Icy -cold City-.

Le 1er février 2006, 12012 sortent enfin leur premier album play dolls en deux versions en même temps qu’un "best of" intitulé not obtain+1. Trois mois après, ils se dévoilent sous un autre jour avec la sortie du maxi-single HEART, suivi par une tournée oneman. Une de leurs performances est alors filmée au LIQUIDROOM ebisu afin d’éditer un DVD live en août 2006.
Ils composent ensuite les deux maxi Pistol et Wana ; le premier étant dans les bacs en septembre et l’autre en octobre.

12012 ne comptent pas s’arrêter là puisqu’ils se lancent aux Etats-Unis et en Europe. Les premiers concerts sur le vieux continent ont lieu le 29 septembre à Munich et le 1er octobre à Paris lors de la tournée Wana～I’m the hermit ～ . Celle-ci se termine par deux concerts les 20 et 22 octobre à Houston pendant l’Oni-con, quelque mois après le passage éclair de Wataru et de Hiroaki à la convention Anime Expo.

Ils achèvent l’enregistrement du maxi-single de mi-novembre intitulé OVER et ils tournent les clips du DVD CREATED MOVIE 2～modern films~ prévu pour décembre. Encore une fois, ils proposent la réédition de certaines de leurs œuvres "sold out". Les trois mini-albums Bell Salem, Knightmare et Shin ～deep～ sont donc à nouveau disponibles dès le 13 décembre.

12012 (pronounced 'ichi ni zero ichi ni') is a visual rock band based in the Kansai region of Japan. The band's interesting name comes from the California penal code, which means "possession of a dangerous weapon". With five members, the lyrics are always written by vocalist Miyawaki Wataru who uses their songs to create a story. Their music style tends to be harder rock, with a dark and aggressive undercurrent.

BIOGRAPHY
12012 began officially in 2003 on May 1st, immediately signing with Undercode Productions, home to other bands such as Vidoll and Phantasmagoria. They ended May together with their first live at a club in Osaka on the 31st. That summer, they released their first maxi-single, "depression sign". Limited to 1000 copies, it's now become very sought after by fans.

Participating in various events and contributing to numerous omnibuses, 12012's popularity increased throughout 2003 and into 2004. In October of 2004, they organized a six-day event/tour called Guilty of Six Days, in which each show was managed by one member of 12012, aside the final in which the whole band participated in organizing. Bands such as Duel Jewel and Panic Channel were featured along with numerous others. In that same month, they began a three month long consecutive release schedule; the mini album "Bell salem" was released in October, followed by the mini album "Knight Mare" in November, and finally the mini album "shin~deep" in December. They ended 2004 by performing in two different cities, Tokyo and Osaka, in the same day.

In February of 2005, they held their first one-man at the ESAKA MUSE which was later released on DVD. In May, they celebrated their second anniversary as a band before re-releasing a slew of their older material, including "depression sign". In July, they released a DVD containing some of their PVs before going into a short September tour.

12012 only seemed to pick up steam as the band went into 2006; continuing to participate in various events, they released three photobooks before the middle of the year and two full albums. The first was their first full album, "PLAY DOLLS", which was released in two versions, one containing a DVD and the other a bonus CD. They also released a 'best of' album entitled "not obtain+1". As May rolled around, they held a oneman tour to celebrate their three years together and released a new single, "Heart". A DVD with footage from the tour was later released in August.

Despite all of this touring and releasing, the band was apparently still not ready to rest as Miyawaki Wataru and Sakai Hiroki dropped in on some of their international fans at the Anime Expo in 2006 in southern California to shake hands and sign autographs. This was just a hint of things to come as the entire band then went to Germany and France in the fall to perform for their international fans before returning to America to perform at the Onicon Convention held in Texas. In-between all of this, they'd also released three consecutive singles; "PISTOL" in September, "wana" in October, and finally "Over..." in November. They held another tour in Japan then, stretching from mid-November to December.

Change seems to be in the air for this band as they went into 2007. After their graduation from their indies label, Undercode Productions, they signed to a new label called Back Coat in February. Although they've changed labels, 12012's work ethic doesn't seem to have changed in the slightest as they've already announced the release of a summer single and tour.
